Marathon Health reported to the Texas attorney general on October 30 that an August 24 breach affected 5,684,735 people nationwide, including 234,534 Texas residents. The health care provider said an unauthorized person impersonated an IT worker, obtained an employee’s credentials and exported information from a cloud-hosted application during several hours of access.
The information varied by person and may have included names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, medical information and health insurance information. Marathon said it confirmed on September 9 that personal data had been obtained. Its notice says it has no evidence the information has been misused and is offering identity-monitoring services to affected people.
